The Framing

July 28, 2013

This shows the full structure of the roof.
On the overhang: Rafters, 3/4 plywood, horizontal 2x4 laid flat every 4', vertical 2x4 on edge over each rafter creating a dead air space, 1/2" plywood creating a stiff box beam of the whole roof structure.
Over the house: Rafters, 3/4" plywood, polyiso insulation (ISO) 3 1/2" thick (R22), 1/2" plywood.  Then inside the house the 2x12" rafters will be filled with dense pack cellulose insulation (R46) for a total R value of R70 with the plywood and sheetrock included.
Roof Surface: We are using a steel roof.  You can see two color samples on the lower right.  We have chosen the darker blue which is very close to the sky color in most lighting conditions.  In this picture is looks its darkest.

This shows the first layer of the roof structure.  The red plywood covers the heated area of the house and the tan plywood covers the overhangs.  The overhangs use AC plywood with the A side down because it will show through the rafters from below.  The rafters will be filled with insulation over the heated area.

The last chance to see the top of this tree from the living room.

Finally we are getting the roof started.

Had to get the plastic off the beam because it was holding water.

Plants at Grey Owl

This stuff is sprouting up like grass

There is a vine with spikey leaves and stems that has a very similar leaf shape that I have been removing.  I'm afraid I may have been killing some of these as well.  I need to check for thorns.

This flower has almost needle like leaves.
This is an invasive that covers the ground choking out all other plants as well as climbing into the trees.  It is one of the plants that I have been removing from the site.
This is another invasive that I have been removing.

This is some of the "native" grass on the site.
Wild Strawberries ?

There is a big patch of these flowers.
